AVEF Summer Fellowship for High School Juniors

looking for an exciting and life changing summer experience. The AVEF Summer Fellowship offers full support for program fees, transportation, living expenses, and incidentals for a summer program you choose. Past fellowship recipients have studied political science, health care, archaeology, engineering, art, culture, language, and theater—in places like Spain, France, Mexico, Korea, England, New York, and Belize.

Start by exploring your interests, aptitudes, and passions to find a program that fits your goals. Programs may be in the U.S. or abroad, but must include an educational component and have no religious affiliation.

The fellowship is competitive and open only to current high school juniors. Applicants must complete the AVEF application before the deadline and interview with the selection committee.

The Fellowship Application Form is available below.

Guidelines...

  1. Make sure your parents or guardians are supportive. They must sign a letter of consent that should be submitted with your application. Discuss with your parents or guardian the details of the program you are considering. They must be made aware of safety, travel, and supervision issues before you apply. Make sure they agree that the program is appropriate for you.

  2. Apply to the program you have chosen. Many programs begin accepting applications as early as January of the year you plan to attend. Make sure you are clear about the application deadlines. If you are accepted before the Education Foundation completes the selection process, include a copy of your acceptance in your application packet.

  3. Apply for both need and merit scholarships offered by the program.

  4. Write an essay of at least two pages double-spaced, describing the program and why you have selected it. Include information about who you are, what your experiences have been that lead you to be interested in this program, and what you hope to learn.

  5. Assemble information about this program to include with you AVEF application. This can be from brochures, books, the web or any other materials sent to you by the program you have applied for.

  6. Three typed letters of recommendation from teachers or other community members (not a family member) who know you well enough to tell us why they think this program will be right for you and will benefit your education. These letters should be mailed directly to AVEF at P.O. Box 242, Boonville CA 95415

How to submit:

When all the above information is assembled, you may submit your materials to the AV High School office. You may also submit your application by clicking the "Submit Here" button, just below the application button to the left. Include all necessary documents in the email.

The deadline for mailing your application and all supporting letters is Friday, December 19, 2026, at 3:00 pm

If your application is selected for further consideration, AVEF will contact you to schedule an interview date. During the interview, AVEF members will be asking you to demonstrate your complete knowledge of the program you have applied to. Your enthusiasm, knowledge, and passion for this exciting opportunity will be critical to our selection committee. Consider making a plan for sharing your Fellowship experience with the student body and other community groups in the fall of your senior year. You should be prepared to explain your presentation plans at the interview.
